May is definitely a brilliant month. As well as longer days, blue bells and bank holidays, it’s when the Dakhla family get back together. The Dakhla trilogy, filled from near and very far, with more than a whiff of a reunion. The annual pilgrimage in search of more wind, flat water, fun and games. You know what to expect in Dakhla, cool, crisp and fresh mornings with a leisurely drawn out breakfast (with a few exceptions:). This transitions, energy stirring, into the blustery chaos of pumping kites, laying lines and a thumbs up before the intense joy and full awakening of the first flushing. After a great day improving on the water there’s the brilliant hospitality, a chilled Casablanca to soothe the palms, washed down with a dreamy sunset to the rhythm of the wind and the whoops of the last few die hards left out there, before filling ones belly with some great food. Maybe a boogie if there’s anything left in the tank, a quick gaze up at the enormity and beauty of the universe on the way to bed, before finally collapsing into a well deserved slumber. It never gets old….
